What is Diabetes?

Type 2 DIabetes or late onset diabetes is a disorder charcterised by high blood glucose, insulin resistance and relative insulin deficiency.

If you have Type 2 diabetes then your body no longer produces enough insulin on demand to keep your blood glucose levels within the normal range.

Obesity and poor diet are major contributing factors. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome sufferers are at greater risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes due to insulin resistance. Individuals with these health complaints are at greater risk of heart disease and stroke.

Management focuses on diet and exercise. In most cases, reaching an ideal body weight is associated with the resotration of normal blood sugar levels.
